Music of hope – Let’s help talented young percussionists to participate in the prestigious Music camp in Portugal!
Boris, Isa, Egzon, Evida and Ramiz are extremely talented young percussionists connected by their love of music and the desire to support each other on the way out of material poverty. They are overcoming obstacles little by little, day in and day out, through dedicated work, great musical potential and desire to make progress. They are now focused on the same goal – to represent Serbia on the music camp taking place in Portugal from 1st till 7th of July, along with 600 talented children from other European countries. Inspired by their unbelievable desire, persistence and talent, the organization Music Art Project (MAP), that gathers children from marginalized groups along Serbia and work on their social inclusion through group musical education, decided to help them achieve this goal.
Our “Dream team” Isa, Egzon, Evida, Ramiz and Boris joined the Music of hope program last September in the new MAP center in the elementary school “Branko Pesic”, in Zemun, attended mostly by Roma(?) and displaced (?) children. They showed great interest and talent from the very beginning, especially for percussion instruments, making progress with the speed of light. Their first successful performance was after only two months and it was followed by many more.
Participation in the Music of Hope music camp in May was a life changing experience, where they played side by side with experienced musicians, their role models. Among them was Boris, student of music high school “Stankovic”, who enchanted them with his friendliness, support and music artistry, while he was amazed by their freedom of expression and spontaneity. Boris stood out as one of the young leaders Boris capable to motivate four new colleagues to continue their musical education. This makes him a extremely valuable member of our team.
Learning from and together with your peers is a base of the program Music of Hope, because you colleagues are the best allies for fighting again discrimination and. Socializing and learning hard together during the six-days music camp, they felt that those differences are fading away in the spotlights of the concert hall and the applause of over 1200 spectators. For us, as well as for them it is highly important to be able to experience that feeling once again, because those moments are the reasons which gives them strength to continue believing in them selves and investing in their education and future. Our goal is to help them in growing up into proactive citizens, young leader and to serve others as a role models.
Their path of development is followed and controlled by our El Sistema educators. One of them is Dijana, young violin teacher and the coordinator of the program Music of hope, which will be the one following our 5 children on a musical camp in Portugal. Her desire is to learn from the best European El Sistema experts and implement that knowledge in Serbia. Highly qualified and commited teachers represents the base of our program, because those children learn from their support, professionalism and love. That is why we invite you to donate and help us raise funds for participation of our thirving musicians in the music camp in Portugal.
